A six-year-old boy suffered horrific internal injuries after he drank drain cleaner which he mistakenly thought was a bottle of water.
Sonny Arthur, of Hatfield Peverel, Essex, was rushed to Great Ormond Street Hospital in London after digesting caustic soda crystals from the heavy duty cleaning product.
His parents Victoria and Ian said they are comforting each other through this "horrible" time as Sonny was allowed home yesterday.
Further tests will be done but the couple are expecting a long road to recovery for their son.
Speaking from the family home today mum Victoria said: "It is a life-changing thing.
"His treatment will be for life. It is that serious.
"He was hooked up to all sorts of tubes, but he took it all in his stride, but we didn't. It was just a complete whirlwind.
