A British policewoman arrested in the US after leaving her toddler alone in a New York hotel room has launched a legal bid to get the child back.
Criminal charges against Louise Fielden were eventually dismissed but her son is still in foster care in the States.
The 42-year-old single mother came back to London on Tuesday, one day after the charges were dismissed.
She then launched a legal bid in Brooklyn Federal Court for the return of her now 15-month-old son Samuel, the New York Daily News reports .
Her lawyer, Andrew Spinnell, argues the baby is being held "hostage and kidnapped in a foreign country".
The international saga began in April when Fielden arrived with Samuel in New York City for a two-week stay after a winter holiday in the Caribbean.
They checked into the Chelsea Highline Hotel where an employee discovered the infant alone in the room sleeping on a cot, according to court papers.
The NYPD was called and Fielden explained she had left the child sleeping while she went to a hotel kitchen to boil water to sterilise his bottles.
Fielden was accused of leaving the baby alone for more than one hour on two separate occasions.
She claims she was only gone 30 minutes for the bottle-washing and was sitting nearby eating breakfast in the kitchen area while the infant was on the floor.
