New Year celebrations turned into tragedy when two men were killed after their car ploughed into a tree.
The crash took place in Newcastle just four hours into 2016, the Chronicle reports .
Tyne and Wear Fire Brigade attended the accident , which occurred near the junction with Fenham Hall Drive.
Flowers have been left at the scene while well wishers have also paid tribute to the as-yet unnamed men on social media.
One wrote: "I've been told there was a fatal accident involving two close friends maybe three this morning on Barrack Road/Grandstand Road.
