Athletic Bilbao kept their European challenge going as they came from a goal down to beat 10-man Celta Vigo 2-1 at San Mames on Monday Night
After a goalless first half, the in form Iago Aspas put Celta ahead on 54 minutes, but it all went pear-shaped for the visitors in the final 10 minutes.
First, Facundo Roncaglia received his marching orders when he collected his second caution of the game by giving away a penalty, which was converted by Aritz Aduriz, and Mikel San Jose then secured a dramatic comeback win for Los Leones.
The Galicians threatened first through Aspas, who sent a shot crashing against the crossbar from inside the area on the right in an early scare for Ernesto Valverde's side.
Bilbao's best chance in the first half saw Aduriz test Ruben Blanco with a header that the keeper had to save, as the two teams went into the break at level pegging.
Aspas again fired a warning to the Basque outfit early in the second half when he hit the right post from inside the box, and the striker bagged his 10th goal of the season soon afterwards having connected with Theo Bongonda's cross to steer the ball into the bottom-left corner of the net.
Blanco had to be alert to deny both Iker Muniain and Inaki Williams as Los Leones looked to respond to going behind. Aspas went close at the other end moments later, but he was kept out by Kepa Arrizabalaga in the home goal.
However, the hosts were let back into the match on 80 minutes when Roncaglia brought down Williams inside the area to pick up his second yellow card and a subsequent red. Aduriz slotted his spot-kick down the middle to restore parity and give Los Leones hope.
And San Jose delivered in stoppage time as he collected Williams' header and fired past Blanco into the bottom-right corner of the goal to complete the comeback and take Bilbao up to seventh in the standings, two points outside the European places.
Scorers [ Aritz Aduriz 82' penalty, San Jose Dominguez 90' ] [ Iago Aspas 54' ]
