Club Brugge 0-2 FC Copenhagen

Porto's win over Leicester City meant that Copenhagen's three points counted for little as they dropped into the Europa League

FC Copenhagen ended their Champions League Group G with a 2-0 victory over Club Brugge but Porto's thumping win over Leicester condemned them to the Europa League.

Brandon Mechele turned the ball into his own net and Mathias Jorgensen then added a second but it was all in vain for the Danish side.

Brugge created the first opening of the game after just 90 seconds when Ricardo Van Rhijn got in down the right channel but his drilled effort was beaten away by Robin Olsen at his near post.

Copenhagen went ahead after just eight minutes when Ludwig Augustinsson swung over a free kick from the right and Thomas Delaney got the slightest of flicks on the ball but it hit defender Mechele and deflected past Ludovic Butelle into the Brugge net.

And they doubled their advantage in the 15th minute and it was again the delivery of Augustinsson that made it as his corner from the right was headed home at the near post by Jorgensen.

Delaney then dragged a shot narrowly wide as the visitors continued to pour forward looking to add to their goal tally before the break.

But with Porto coasting to victory against Leicester it became apparent Copenhagen's hopes of progress were over but still they attacked.

Substitute Jan Gregus hit a shot from 25 yards that was easily gathered by Butelle before Delaney had a late header turned away by the keeper from another Augustinsson corner.

Scorers [Mechele 8' own goal, Jorgensen 15']
