Boy, 16, dies after stabbing at London playing field in capital's first knife death of 2016

Police were called at about 9.40pm last night and the boy was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead

A 16-year-old boy has died after he was stabbed in a London park last night.

The teenager was taken to hospital where he was later pronounced dead, Met Police said.
The attack is believed to be the first knife death in the capital this year.

It happened at Ashton Playing Fields off Chigwell Road in Woodford, east London at about 9.40pm on Saturday, according to officers.

He was taken by ambulance to an east London hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Police believe they know the boy's identity but are awaiting formal identification.
