Flybe plane forced to make emergency landing after bird strike causes engine failure

The potentially catastrophic incident happened as the jet was taking off for Alicante Spain

A budget airline flight carrying 83 passengers had to make an emergency landing at Southampton airport after a bird strike caused an engine to fail.
The Flybe flight was headed for Alicante in Spain when a bird struck a propeller on the Embraer E175 plane shortly after take-off and caused an engine to fail.
The plane then circled for 30 minutes before it landed safely at 10am Sunday morning.
Emergency vehicles were on standby as the plane touched down as a precaution.

Keith Pattison passenger aboard the flight and an engineer told The Daily Echo": “It’s almost certainly a bird strike, I would have thought.”
A Flybe spokeswoman confirmed in a statement: "Flybe can confirm that Flight BE1715 returned from airborne this morning following a bird strike.
"The aircraft landed safely without further incident at Southampton Airport and, as is common practice in such situations, the airport put its emergency vehicles on standby as a precautionary measure.
"All passengers disembarked as normal when the aircraft arrived on stand.
"The safety of its passengers and crew is the airline's number one priority and Flybe apologises to its passengers for the inconvenience experienced as a result of this incident."
