The Gunners boss expects one of the busiest winter windows in Premier League history due to the huge television rights deal
Arsene Wenger predicts that this January transfer window could be the busiest in Premier League history.
Arsenal are closing in on a deal for Basel midfielder Mohamed Elneny, while Goal understands that
Manchester United are negotiating with Lazio over a £35 million deal for Felipe Anderson.
And Wenger insists the Premier League’s television deal, along with an open title race, are both key incentives for clubs to spend big this month.
“My prediction is that this could be one of the most active January transfer windows that we’ve seen,” said the Arsenal manager.
“It is all down to the financial power of the English clubs and the inflation which could exist in the summer when the new TV deal comes into play.
“There is an anticipation to do business now and everyone is feeling the responsibility to do something in the transfer market this month.
“The teams who are near the bottom like Aston Villa and who fear to go down will feel under pressure not to accept the situation.
“And with the title race so open this time, the teams near the top will also feel that if they can improve their squad it could make a difference.
“When I arrived in England you could sign players throughout the season. Now we have this concentration of transfer activity but I feel it was better before.”
