Super Eagles yesterday defeated South African Premier League side, University of Pretoria 3-0, in one of the friendly games lined up for the team ahead of the African Nations Championship, which kicks off on January 16 in Kigali, Rwanda.
The Eagles will confront Rwanda-bound Angola in Pretoria today at the Tuks University Stadium in another friendly aimed at keeping the team in good shape for the CHAN.
The team beat University of Pretoria with goals from Tunde Adeniji (two goals) and Ifeanyi Mathew.
Since arriving Pretoria on Saturday, the team has been training twice daily with Coach Sunday Oliseh in charge of the side.
Oliseh arrived in Pretoria ahead of the group and said yesterday that he is looking ahead to the clash with the skillful Angolans.
Angola finished as runner-up at the second African Nations Championship in Sudan five years ago, while Nigeria finished in third place at the third edition in South Africa in 2014.
After today’s game, the Eagles will clash with
Cote d’Ivoire at the same Tuks University Stadium on January 11 and fly into Rwanda on January 15.
The team will begin their campaign in the CHAN on January 18 against neighbours, Niger Republic, at the astro-turf Stade Regional Nyamirambo on the outskirts of Kigali.
Nigeria will also play Tunisia and Guinea in Group C, with the match against the Guineans scheduled for the city of Rubavu.
